Our team, Contribution Globale, is taking part in an international business competition know as Citizen Act. We are competing for the opportunity to make our vision of the socially conscious bank of the future a reality. Hosted by Société Générale, a banking network headquartered in Paris, France, whose focus is on promoting Corporate Social Responsibility, this Wiki-Blog is designed to demonstrate our idea, known as RoseLeaf, and receive feedback from people like you world-wide. We encourage you to comment, suggest ideas, and ask questions, so that we may work together to build the bank of tomorrow!

RoseLeaf is a social network and banking initiative. Its goal is to provide aspiring women entrepreneurs and business leaders with greater access to mentoring, financial capital and educational support, in turn, raising the likelihood of these women fostering meaningful careers and financial independence.

RoseLeaf also aims to serve as a forum to explore addressing issues of particular concern to women in entrepreneurship, an example of which would be what the UN refers to as women's time poverty: their disproportionate burden of household and familial responsibilities in most cultures. Given the strong correlation between gender inequality and poverty, we view this as a sustainable development project, targeting women in low-income and rural areas, to hopefully raise these communities out of poverty.

Fantastic idea. It wonderful to see the young people of today working to foster creative thinking and making suggestions that will have a impact now and in the future. Way to go!!

What a wonderful idea! The project mentions the possibility of microlending in the future. I love this idea and think it really could be very beneficial for everyone involved. I do wonder how much would really get to the people who need it most. Would microlending require significant overhead?

This is a terrific concept! Best of luck!

This is an amazing idea and we are so proud of our NC State students. Best of luck with this project. Let us know how we can help!

This concept you have created is not only original but relevant. Social Networking sites have transformed the way people communicate with each other on a regular basis. You are thinking ahead because this site may one day transform the way people do business.

Not just women, if this works, the same model could be applied to people with physical disabilities and several other demographics.

Bon Chance!

It is very reassuring to see that social activism and responsible business practices has reached so many different corners of our global society and industries, not to mention the fact that this particular endeavor is being initiated by students with such a bright future! Best of luck!!

What a great idea, keep at it and all the best of luck with the project.

Hey Good luck for the rest of the game, and don't forget that its realy important to have an important number of visitors and comments, but the most important thing is to propose a concrete and innovative final version of your project, im sure that you will be able to do it.

@chris CSR includes the promotion of community development. Our hypothesis is that, by focusing on women entrepreneurs, we are reducing the gender gap and providing a larger impact on communities as a whole than would otherwise be possible.

83 Posted by: Tim, 03/11 23:57
This is an awesome idea. The only question that I have is about the network mentoring. Will this be hosted by financially successful women for women that are interested in entrepreneurship? If so how do you plan on attracting these types of mentors to your network? Or, will the mentoring be handled by SG employees? If this is the case what sort of tools and skills will be provided to the SG staff to help them be able to handle such a task?

82 Posted by: Eric, 03/11 20:33
I love this idea and where yall are taking this vision. An idea perhaps is to add a place on each person's profile in the RoseLeaf Network where they can upload photos or videos to better display who they are and what the recipients need. With the ease of internet video communication through such avenues as Skype, I can see the ability for mentors/donors to communicate with entrepreneurs that much more quickly and easily. Keep up the awesomeness!

79 Posted by: Kyle, 03/10 16:36
Phenomenal idea! As we know there are great ideas out there that could certainly be successful, but without the funding they never get off the ground. This concept will certainly help that and is an entrepreneurial approach to funding those projects. Good Luck!

78 Posted by: Weagle, 03/10 13:09
Awesome idea. Good luck with the project. Maybe this will help reduce the fraud that has been so blatantly occurring in banks

I think a good way to get women involved in realizing their own fincinal independence is to elect more women leaders. Check out The White House Project. They are a group of women who are interested in getting women in positions of power.

This looks like a really good idea, and I commend you on your work!

Good luck on your project, Yusuf, Holly, and Jenn. This team has great potential. As a classmate of Holly, I know that she is a good worker and student. Nothing will setback this team of motivated individuals.

Hey guys! Thank you all for your feedback and support. That being said, this wiki is to serve as a forum for constructive criticism, and serious reflection on the project. Unfortunately, we've had to delete comments we viewed as inappropriate. We encourage you to continue commenting as long as you can keep your comments productive, professional and sincere.

Again, we want to thank you all for the time you are taking to support this initiative. We look forward to working with you to bring this vision to reality.

What does a "banking network to support women entrepreneurs" have to do with CSR??

If I worked for SG, that's the #1 question that's on my mind. Especially considering banking culture, I'd be adverse.

Read Milton Friedman's NYT
article about CSR for some real perspective.

I worked with Jenn when she had a vision to establish a festival in our city. She was organized, tireless, professional and creative. Her student team crafted a successful event that brought together university, community, service and governmental groups for a common cause. The event, even though student led, was enjoyed by a divers cross section of the city's population. I have no doubt that her team has the ability to bring this project to fruition too!

This looks great. It is an idea that I am deeply interested in. If you are looking to add to the team or just bounce ideas off of someone I would be very interested. I recently read a short passage from a book by NY Times columnist Nick Kristoff that addresses this issue directly. Great statistics and maybe a good contact to gain support for your idea whether or whether not you win! Also, if you are looking to make contacts with organizations out there doing the work, there is a great organization in Kenya and South Africa encouraging social change and economic development through volunteerism called ThinkImpact. You should check them out! My email is taconfre@ncsu.edu if you are interested in discussing ideas!

This is a really important issue, especially with the global economy today. The idea of Corporate Social responsibility is something that is not always paid attention to, but really should be. If we cannot stand for each other, there will be no one left in the end.

I liked your idea and many other initiatives like this, especially micro-loans program in the poverty struck areas in the world. I am curious that who is the target consumer of this Capital? Because if target consumer are only women, and if this is a global initiative, then you may have to think about the social and cultural aspects of different societies and cultures in the world, and even after making this capital available in those societies, it may never be used effectively and may even be abused. In many parts of the world, access to loans (may be micro or not) is a good idea with a spirit of making this money available directly to consumers in poor areas by cutting red-tape and corruption losses in between, however if funds are limited to only women, then the program may become ineffective in many areas in the world. Sometimes studying local political environment also becomes a key aspect before launching such program to a community.
All what I have said is keeping the global picture in mind. However your idea is ready to take off now if you are targeting only US and US like environment. Good Luck an dkeep thinking always.

This is a great cause - as an entrepreneur, I know how intimidating the venture acquisition process may seem to the novice start-up ...

One comment: Please make sure successful female entrepreneurs have a way to give back to this community, either through donations or free advice !

Thanks !

looks great. i think it is really important to have something like this for both the further empowerment of women and the growth in the number of small businesses.

One comment:
from just this website and the societe generale's site, it is unclear the monetary/business relationship you will have with the women entrepreneurs. I am not a business person so maybe its really obvious and I just don't get it. So maybe have some sort of explanation of what kind of tangible things you will be doing, like an example of what a women starting a new business would do with your resources.

Chidi,

Thank you for the wonderful feedback and the amount of time you put into thinking about this project. We will add some more info about Société Générale and their role in the next few days.

We definitely expect that a variety of the resources made available through this network would not just be provided by women. As Yusuf, one of our key team members illustrates, men can support this project in a variety of ways, as well, and we will also look to elaborate on those in the coming weeks.

7 Posted by: Chidi, 03/01 01:59
This seems to be a very good concept that can help many women. Good to hear about it.

As far as female entrepreneurs that I know personally, I don't have any immediate contacts. But I'll keep this opportunity in mind for future purposes.

With regard to the presentation slides, I thought it was concise and fairly easy to understand. I could mention a few things, which may or may not be significant:

* Since I'm not sure who was the intended audience, I assume it would be helpful to know a little more about Société Générale and their role and responsibilities in this endeavor.

* I think the abbreviation SG (referring to Société Générale) was used without an explanation. It's probably a minor point, but I was at a loss for a moment.

* While this would be an organization to address the needs of female entrepreneurs, it could benefit significantly from vast resources that are not necessarily provided by women. Versatility in resource acquisition can be a key to success.

Anyway, just a few thoughts. All the best!
