Renewable energy – a breath of fresh air
Renewable energy. Energy that can be generated over and over, with no or minimum damage towards the environment.
Energy generated from the elements of nature, such as water, wind, light, geothermal heat. In the past decades, years, problems such as massive pollution of air and water emerged. Governments and regional organizations quickly started developing programs for lowering emissions and promoting a rational, controlled way of producing, distributing and consuming energy.
Renewable energy plays a key role. It has no harmful emissions in the atmosphere. It does not involve burning of solid fuel - a limited resource - to produce energy. With the right technology, it can be used endlessly, with no harmful impact on the environment.
Some facts and figures to show the importance of renewable energy:
-
From 2004 to the end of 2008, wind power capacity increased 250 percent;
-
In 1995, statistics show a production of 6,100 MWh wind power installed capacity. In 2008, this figure went up to 120,791 MWh, so thats more than 13 times the value of 1995. 2 MWh is enough to power a small town;
-
In 2006, 63 billion USD were invested worldwide in new renewable production capacities. This figure grew to 120 billion in 2008;
Coal is running out, oil is running out. Renewable energy, in its many forms represents the future. Figures regarding production capacities will most likely increase exponentially in the next decades, and less emissions and more clean energy will also mean a breath of fresh air for the planet.
Each and every country has its highlights in this area. In countries with a lot of sunlight, such as Spain, Germany, Portugal and parts of the US thrive in capturing sunlight and turning it into energy. Northern European countries take use of the wind, powering massive turbines to generate electricity.
Projects will be happening at a larger scale as the years pass. Eco energy will be more than a title for an article for each and every one of us. Through our project we will try bringing together all possible stakeholders in green energy projects, help them interact – virtually and develop and sustain a community.
