Renewable Energy

Renewable energy – a breath of fresh air

Renewable energy. Energy that can be generated over and over, with no or minimum damage towards the environment.

Energy generated from the elements of nature, such as water, wind, light, geothermal heat. In the past decades, years, problems such as massive pollution of air and water emerged. Governments and regional organizations quickly started developing programs for lowering emissions and promoting a rational, controlled way of producing, distributing and consuming energy.

Renewable energy plays a key role. It has no harmful emissions in the atmosphere. It does not involve burning of solid fuel - a limited resource - to produce energy. With the right technology, it can be used endlessly, with no harmful impact on the environment.

Some facts and figures to show the importance of renewable energy:

- From 2004 to the end of 2008, wind power capacity increased 250 percent;

- In 1995, statistics show a production of 6,100 MWh wind power installed capacity. In 2008, this figure went up to 120,791 MWh, so thats more than 13 times the value of 1995. 2 MWh is enough to power a small town;

- In 2006, 63 billion USD were invested worldwide in new renewable production capacities. This figure grew to 120 billion in 2008;

Coal is running out, oil is running out. Renewable energy, in its many forms represents the future. Figures regarding production capacities will most likely increase exponentially in the next decades, and less emissions and more clean energy will also mean a breath of fresh air for the planet.

Each and every country has its highlights in this area. In countries with a lot of sunlight, such as Spain, Germany, Portugal and parts of the US thrive in capturing sunlight and turning it into energy. Northern European countries take use of the wind, powering massive turbines to generate electricity.

Projects will be happening at a larger scale as the years pass. Eco energy will be more than a title for an article for each and every one of us. Through our project we will try bringing together all possible stakeholders in green energy projects, help them interact – virtually and develop and sustain a community.

To infinity and beyond :))

Think of renewable energy, and you're likely to envision power from above, such as from the sun or wind. We should call it God Energy :)

renewable energy is the future, this seems clear. so think green!

Thank you Octavian for the interesting articles. Staying updated with latest progress in technology and innovation is essential. We'll bear these articles (and many others) in mind and when the time is right we'll research and have feedback from key people in the area.

Yesterday I read an article in a national romanian newspaper about a new discovery, "which will reinvent renewable energy". You will find that article at http://www.evz.ro/articole/detalii-articol/887970/Viitorul-energiei-sta-intr-o-cutie/ (Sorry, that article isn't in English)

Thanks for sharing the article with us!

In Romania there are some large wind energy projects in development. An article which presents these projects is found at http://www.zf.ro/zf-english/cez-favourite-for-cwp-wind-farm-project-in-dobrogea-3088843/

Good luck guys with your project!

Despite the fact that nuclear energy offers great benefits as an alternative source of electric power, nuclear energy as a whole, is still a controversial issue in many countries. The reasons for this center round the issues of safety, waste, and nuclear weapons.

But what about nuclear power? Can it be considered an alternative solution, too?

@Andra: we don't consider it's too late to react. We all have to reach a certain level of understanding the issues regarding energy, in order to start reacting in a proactive manner. This is one of the objectives of our platform. Thank you for bringing this up.

@Oana Dobre: very interesting observations. For the moment, our project only involves Romania. Our platform will focus on stakeholders in Romania (including multinational companies present in our country). Of course we cannot exclude the EU or such entities that state international regulations and directives. They help us create a vision over renewable energy issues in Romania.

It is true. Green is the new... well, pink (:D) when it comes to energy sources and durable development. I know that there is a lot of attention paid these days to coming up with alternative energy sources, especially because of the rather bleak predictions made in the latest climate change-related reports. However, the least developed countries and the developing ones keep on being the primary pollution emitters. It's going to be tricky convincing them to invest in something they don't really want, but actually need. Your idea of promoting this idea to the Romanian public is great and I wish it has the impact it deserves!

I completely agree with your presentation and point of view.It will be interesting watching your progress and i am glad i can help.Hopefully,something good will come out of your project,because we desperately need someone who opens our eyes before it will be too late(although some say it already is).Romania needs to be educated in all that concerns the respect for Nature!
