On Wednesday (the 3rd of March) we had the honor to meet Coca-Cola Hellenic Romania representatives: Janina Trotea – Internal Communication Coordinator and Laura Sgarcitu – Public Affairs & Communication Specialist, Community Programs. We discussed about Coca-Cola Hellenic’s (CCHBC) involvement in clean energy projects, what their strategies are and what their opinion on our idea is.
In October 2009, Coca-Cola Hellenic and Contour Global – energy development company, inaugurated en energy efficient power plant in Ploiesti, Romania. This is part of CCHBC’s initiative to drop CO2 emissions by 20 % until 2020. The Cogeneration Power Plant in Romania, built alongside Contour Global, is located at CCHBC production facilities in Ploiesti. This is the first of the 15 power plants CCHBC engaged in constructing in 12 countries - 8 of which in the EU.
Facts about the power plant in Ploiesti:
- The first of two to be constructed in Romania. The second one is planned to be built in Timisoara;
- Powered by natural gas, the power plant supplies electrical energy, hot and cold water and heat to the bottling operations;
- Capable of reducing CO2 emissions by at least 40 %;
- Total capital investment of 16 million Euro;
- The systems are almost fully automated allowing the facility to be managed and monitored by just one person per shift employing four people full time.
This was our first official contact with one of the major stakeholders for our platform, Coca Cola Hellenic Romania.
Here is what CCHBC representatives had to say about our initiative:
"This is a very optimistic and encouraging project which makes us believe that the protection of environment becomes a tangible subject, to whom we all can contribute. We wish the team succes in achieving their dream!"
