Guys, I read almost all your posts and i totally agree with the importance of finance and bank industry and with the phenomenon of three bottom line. I believe that if capital ventures, banks and private equity funds would start to do a deeper discrimination in favour of responsible companies CSR will get more and more relevant.
Anyway, good luck guys, I think you're doing a really good job giving us the chance to think about something that is really important for our future...i think that with this forum you're already contributing to CSR challenge because with the discussion you're stimulating our social consciousness!
ich wünsche euch viel erfolg!!!
Climate change is the driving force of sustainable development.
Great! Good luck!!!
Banks can also integrate social and environmental criteria into their business. They can make socially responsible investments, for example supporting sustainable development like renewables or green businesses or excluding some certain sectors from their portfolio like tobacco, arms etc. They can take a part in microfinancing so there is actually a lot they can make as financial intermediaries.
Any clarification?
I cannot see a direct relation between CSR and banking industry.
So far Cigdem has tried to answer questions but we discovered something new in the system that it is indeed possible to comment as a group.
From now on, you will see our group's comments under Four-leaf Clover name.
stupid! system just doesnt support it!
I wrote sustainibility is grater than CSR with "" but it didnt apear :(:(
@Özge
sustainibility CSR???
uppsss!!
so, we can say that sustainibility CSR =))
@Sibel
European Commission defines CSR "enterprises should have in place a process to integrate social, environmental, ethical and human rights concerns into their business operations and core strategy in close collaboration with their stakeholders”.
So it is a business approach and it is basically about how companies manage their business to create a positive impact on society and environment.
@ Aylin and Tayfun
I guess terminology might be a bit confusing, especially about sustainability and CSR. Some companies are using these terms interchangeably. CSR is about interpreting sustainability within corporate context or about driving a change towards sustainability by delivering social and environmental benefits as well as economic ones. But in the end CSR is a business approach and sustainability is a more broad term.
@Berk
Climate change was one of the most important driving forces that triggered the discussion of sustainable development issues. You are absolutely right!
good luck, guys :)))
Are sustainability and CSR same things?
@Nihan
you re the CSR expert!
I believe, your project will be the fourth one to bring you the good luck..
The force is already with you.In you we trust..
May the force be with you, always
What is CSR?
Are sustainability and CSR same things?
its great!!!
If we are discussing sustainable development issues, it is all because of climate change
@Nilgün
Yes, I agree on that. Even though MNCs are advertising about their fair or green products, actually their processes or products are not like that - sometimes just the opposite. This is called "greenwashing".
Or for example, supply chain of many MNC is far from being sustainable.
Or sweat shops still exists as you said.
To some extent, it is true that CSR & sustainability is used as a part of PR but this does not mean that everything is a lie ;) There are also some companies doing remarkable work regarding sustainability-related issues.
@Nihan
Exactly. I guess the biggest challenge in CSR is to find a way to constitute collective values out of unique and individualistic ethical values because ethics is something quite relative and everybody has its different opinions on it.
Benimkini de cevapla :)
I think ethics is the most central issue in CSR. Ethics matters!
good luck :D
@ Esra
Yes, of course their main purpose is to make money but things are changing. Companies which are not socially responsible cannot create a competitive edge anymore. There is relatively a recent phenomenon known as triple bottom line. Organizational success is not only measured through profit (economic) but also planet (environmental) and people (social).
Main purpose of companies is simply to make money. How do they really integrate some social criteria into their business?
Some multinationals claim that they are socially responsible but, for example, they still work with sweat shops in which basic human rights are violated. I think social responsibility issues are generally being used as just a PR activity.
Green Financing is about any investing or lending program that integrates environmental impacts into risk assessment. Banks can either discriminate in investing or lending practices in favor of green projects (renewable energy, nature development and biological agriculture) or against environmentally damaging projects. So green (financing) issues are also gaining importance in banking industry :)
Green has been a very famous phenomenon recently. What about green financing?
u re amazing!
