CSR in 2012... hum interesting topic.
As much as I can try to predict I would say that companies will become more involved with society, specially through their workers. Given the current widespread economic crisis solidarity actions will rise within corporations.
For instance, in my last job the human resources department sent an e-mail to everybody to start bringing groceries to work since there were some cases of colleagues that actually needed help to buy even food and house supplies... Even having a paying job...
This really shocked me, but the engagement of the HR department gave me hope.

Its a pity that theere are not more contributions to the discussion though.
While browsing through the economist it reminded me of their usual issue the world in ...(in this case) 2012.
How about CSR? What will happen next year? Will companies around the world grow more concerned with their impact in society and in the environment?
As for me, I hope to see corporations ever more committed to CSR values... New products being developed with environmental concerns, ever more responsible marketing and communication campaigns, even whole new business models focusing on sustainability and social impacts...
What about you? What will CSR look like in 2012?

Miguel, the key might be to successfully link the policies and actions related to sustainability to profitability, so that making a sustainable choice becomes the only rational choice. And this should apply to all industries.
to continue with our discussion on csr, I wanted to add something:
in the recent years financial institutions have been extensively criticized for their heartless and self-centered behavior, trying to come out of the crisis at any cost. That is why banks should be the first to embrace the principles of performing sustainably, investing ethically, reaching out to the community and leading by example. what do you think about that?

Hello everyone!
Today is a holiday in Portugal! We are celebrating our independence, in Portuguese "Restauração da Independência", after being occupied by the Spanish from 1580 to December 1 1640.
Today is also the world AIDS day! The problems associated with discrimination in the workplace for those who suffer from this disease also have a place in CSR concerns. Everybody deserves to be treated fairly and respectfully!
We agree with you both Claire and Miguel!
For us CSR has become an urgent need. Societies, and corporations in particular, need to change. It is a company's responsibility to ensure that human rights are not violated in their subsidiairies all over the world, to ensure that their business practices are respectful of the environment, that their employers are satisfied and that their communities are happy.

In this world governed by capitalism, new values have to be introduced in society, companies from every sector must put their greed aside and provide utility to our global community.
To me, it is the transposition of sustainablility into the corporate sphere.

As for a visit in Portugal - I definitely recomend it ... it's a nice warming country, full of history.

For you and all our fans check out one of our CSR links, its a nice reference! It's about a book entitled 'Corporate social responsibility: doing the most for your company and cause'. It's very easy to read with a lot of practical examples of how outstanding CSR programs should be ran.
